Litton: 'Not going to talk about a particular brand of cricket'

In his first press conference as Bangladesh’s T20I captain, Litton stressed the importance of clear communication with the players

Mohammad Isam12-May-2025Litton Das’ target with the Bangladesh T20I side is to focus on results rather than a particular brand of cricket. He set this agenda on Monday, in his first press conference after being appointed as the Bangladesh captain in the format. Litton was appointed captain last week when the BCB named the squad that will play against UAE and Pakistan in a total of seven T20Is over the next couple of weeks.Litton replaced Najmul Hossain Shanto, who quit the position earlier this year. Shanto was named the all-format Bangladesh captain in early 2024, but a loss of form caused him to take this action.Form hasn’t been on Litton’s side either, but he led Bangladesh to a 3-0 T20I series win against West Indies in December, when Shanto was out with an injury. Given Bangladesh’s lack of choices, Litton was the BCB’s only option.Litton stressed that his role would require him to communicate clearly with his team-mates.”I am not going to talk about a particular brand of cricket,” he said. “We might need to chase 180-200 in some games. Then we will have to chase 140-145 in other games. The ultimate goal is to win the game. A batter might need to score 40 off 20 balls in one game, and 15 off 20 in the next game.”I want every player to be involved in the game. A player must understand what the team needs from him. It is more important for the player to know how to win a game, rather than stick to a brand of cricket.”For the Bangladesh team to go ahead, the players have to perform. They have to play their specific roles. I have to communicate well with the players, more than talking to the BCB. The more time I get, I will get to be more involved in team matters.”Litton scored 368 runs in the BPL at a strike rate of 143.19•BCBLitton hasn’t played for Bangladesh in all of 2025. He was dropped from the ODI side ahead of the Champions Trophy, and missed the Test series against Zimbabwe after getting an NOC from the BCB to play in the Pakistan Super League. A thumb injury eventually kept him out of that tournament. While Litton was enduring a run of low scores at the time of his Champions Trophy axing, he has since returned to form. He scored 368 runs in the Bangladesh Premier League at an average of 36.80 and a strike rate of 143.19, and has carried that form into the 50-overs Dhaka Premier League, with two half-centuries in his last five innings for Gulshan CC.”I think I played international cricket last [in] December,” he said. “I was not [among the] runs at that time but since then I have tried to get back to form. I tried to get runs in BPL and DPL. I can only try my best. I will try to come back to some form, particularly in the way I have played in my career. If I am doing well, it will definitely help the team.”Litton believes that being appointed on a long-term basis is ideal for a captain . “It is certainly positive to be appointed on a long-term basis,” he said. “It allows you to think clearly about a lot of things. I have to organise the team my way. The players that I have, together we can do something good for the team.”Litton also praised the BCB for appointing Mahedi Hasan as his deputy. Mahedi was in great form against West Indies in December, and is one of the more underrated offspinners in world cricket.”Mahedi has been one of Bangladesh’s best powerplay bowlers,” Litton said. “He is a dominating bowler. You will see very few spinners around the world dominate in that manner. I think he will do better, and give us input to the best of his ability.”

Mayank Yadav set to join LSG on Tuesday, likely to play against RR on Saturday

Mayank Yadav will be in action again soon•BCCI

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)’s express pace bowler Mayank Yadav is set to join the squad on Tuesday. ESPNcricinfo has learnt that Mayank will likely be available for LSG’s next game, against Rajasthan Royals on Saturday in Jaipur. His availability will be another boost for LSG, who had started IPL 2025 without him, Avesh Khan and Akash Deep, who were all recovering from different injuries. Mohsin Khan was also injured and ruled out of the tournament, before being replaced by Shardul Thakur.Avesh and Akash Deep later joined the squad, and have since played five and three games, respectively, out of LSG’s six matches so far. Despite a depleted pace attack, LSG have won four games, and host Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at home on Monday.Mayank, 22, was primarily recovering from a back injury, and has been out of action since October 2024. That is when he had made his international debut, and played three T20Is against Bangladesh at home. He missed the entire domestic season after that and was recovering at the BCCI’s Centre Of Excellence (CoE, formerly NCA) in Bengaluru. LSG head coach Justin Langer had said ten days ago after seeing videos of Mayank operating at “90-95%” that the fast bowler would join the squad soon.Mayank had played only four games for LSG last season, and was among their five retained players before the mega auction.Despite fielding a depleted pace attack from the start, LSG have been among the better bowling attacks this season, handing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) their first loss by restricting them to 190 in Hyderabad, defending 203 at home against Mumbai Indians (MI), and most recently derailing Gujarat Titans’ charge by restricting them to 180 after they were 122 for 2 in 13 overs.Thakur, LSG’s most experienced bowler, is second on the top wicket-takers’ list, while spinner Digvesh Rathi has been their find of the season.

'A very proud moment' – Tyler Morton credits Lyon team-mate and coach as ex-Liverpool midfielder nets match-winning first Lyon goal on return from red card

Tyler Morton scored his first goal for Lyon to secure a 1-0 victory and continue his bright start to life in Ligue 1. The former Liverpool midfielder, making his return after serving a suspension for a red card against Rennes, praised coach Paulo Fonseca for his tactics and highlighted team-mate Nicolas Tagliafico’s assist for the decisive strike.

  • Morton’s winner against Lille

Morton, making a box-crashing run into Lille’s penalty area, slipped between two defenders to finish off Tagliafico’s cross. It was his first game back from suspension after being sent off in Lyon’s 3-1 defeat to Rennes, where he had received a red card for what he described as a typically ‘English’ tackle.

  • Morton's praise for coach and teammates

In his post-match interview, Morton praised coach Fonseca for the clearly defined roles within the team, saying: "The coach helps us enormously with tactics. Everyone knows exactly what they have to do and when they have to do it."

He also credited Tagliafico for his assist and explained the reasoning behind his celebration: "Nico gave me an incredible cross, I'm very happy. I also remembered that there were the fans, so I went to celebrate in front of them."

Taking to Instagram afterwards, he wrote: "Massive 3 points away against difficult opposition! We fought until the end thanks to our fans. A very proud moment to score my first goal for this club."

  • Morton’s praise for Klopp

Morton left Liverpool at the end of the summer window to join Lyon in search of playing time after current coach Arne Slot. However, he was full of praise for former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who believed in him, handed him his league and Champions League debuts, and sent him out on loan to aid his development.

    Morton’s mid-week test against Salzburg

Man Utd receive offer for £250k-p/w ace who Amorim is desperate to offload

Manchester United are probing the market for new signings and now have the opportunity to bring in some much-needed funds to continue their recruitment drive amid recent developments.

Manchester United continue to chase Carlos Baleba

Ruben Amorim has went all out this summer despite the Red Devils missing out on Champions League football last term, bringing in four high-calibre signings in the form of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.

Having only one game a week for the most part will aid the Red Devils’ Premier League prospects, though it is clear that further squad depth is needed if they are to recover from a dismal 2024/25 campaign.

Taking that into account, Manchester United’s exciting pursuit of Brighton & Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba may prove to be the final piece of that jigsaw, albeit the Seagulls’ demand of over £100 million has provoked complications at Old Trafford.

The Cameroon international is a wanted man, and there is no sign of Amorim stopping his quest to land the deep-lying midfielder. However, player sales may be crucial to forcing a deal over the line.

Alejandro Garnacho could be on his way to Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur also hold a vested interest in the Argentinian winger, who could free up funds to put the finishing touches on an improved bid for Baleba.

The Red Devils have options…

Aug 15, 2025

Intriguingly, Axel Disasi could be included in a Garnacho swap deal after falling out of favour at Stamford Bridge, which would enable the Red Devils to strengthen their backline into the bargain while receiving a transfer fee.

Either way, further departures are expected at the club this summer, and Manchester United could now have a decision to make on one of their high earners.

Manchester United receive official offer for Jadon Sancho

Per BBC Sport, Roma have submitted a £20 million bid for Jadon Sancho, who Manchester United and their manager are determined to sell before the transfer window comes to a close.

The England international may be permitted to leave on loan if a permanent deal cannot be reached, given he has been excluded from partaking in first-team training alongside Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia.

Earning approximately £250,000 per week at Old Trafford, Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea and registered five goals and ten assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.

Juventus have also been known as keen admirers of the ex-Borussia Dortmund man, though Roma could be set to leapfrog their Serie A rivals as Sancho runs into the last year of his deal.

£20 million may feel like a low fee for someone of Sancho’s ilk, but context is needed. Ultimately, it has been made clear that he won’t be a first-team contributor moving forward, so it makes sense to cut your losses rather than allow his value to dwindle further.

Wolves now expected to make imminent offer for "unstoppable" £43m striker

Wolverhampton Wanderers are now expected to make an offer for an “unstoppable” striker imminently, but a deal could amount to €50m (£43m), according to a report.

Wolves remain keen on strengthening attacking options

Despite already adding the likes of Jhon Arias, Fer Lopez and Jorgen Strand Larsen to his squad permanently this summer, Vitor Pereira remains keen on bringing in another centre-forward, which could raise concerns about the Norwegian striker’s future.

However, reporter Liam Keen has been quick to point out the Old Gold retain their hardline stance, despite interest from one of their Premier League rivals, saying: “Wolves wanting to sign a striker does not mean they will sell Jorgen Strand Larsen, however.

“The Norwegian is wanted by Newcastle but Wolves’ stance remains that he is not for sale.”

"We’ll see…" – Wolves hold talks over deal for Spain international

Aug 9, 2025

The 25-year-old was a reliable source of goals for Pereira’s side last season, finding the back of the net 14 times in 35 Premier League outings, so it is good news that there are no plans to cash-in this summer.

However, another striker could also be on his way to Molineux, with it recently being revealed Wolves are now looking at a move for FC Nantes’ Matthis Abline, and there has now been a new update on their pursuit of the Frenchman.

According to a report from Le Parisien (via Sport Witness), Wolverhampton Wanderers are now expected to make an offer for Abline imminently, but it could be a costly operation, with the French side holding out for a fee of €50m (£43m).

Nantes' Matthis Abline shoots against Brest.

There may also be competition for the centre-forward’s signature, with FC Paris also keen, although the newly-promoted Ligue 1 side do not plan to offer more than €20m – €25m (£17m – £22m).

Paris’ unwillingness to shell out the full asking price should be encouraging for Wolves, although it is also unclear whether they are willing to pay £43m to get a deal done.

"Unstoppable" Abline could excel at Molineux

Journalist Andres Onrubia Ramos spoke very highly of the 22-year-old forward, saying: “It’s unbelievable that a striker with Abline’s talent isn’t in a European top flight. He’s one of the few things that’s redeemable from France’s U21 match against Portugal so far.

“His technique is extremely refined, he’s unstoppable when he gets going, and he can play as a number 9 and on the right.”

Not only that, but the France U21 international enjoyed his best campaign to date in the 2024-25 season, picking up 11 goals and two assists in 36 matches for Nantes in all competitions, which indicates he could be capable of kicking on at Molineux.

That said, given that Pereira already has Larsen at his disposal, signing a new striker shouldn’t be a priority, and it may now be time to strengthen at centre-back, considering the Old Gold shipped a whopping 69 Premier League goals last season.

Khawaja shifts up as Queensland opener to allow batting order stability

The Australia Test opener will take on the same role for his state in his first season since being replaced as captain having previously batted at No. 4

Usman Khawaja will open the batting for Queensland in the opening three Sheffield Shield rounds, having previously batted at No. 4 while being the Test opener, as new coach Johan Botha looks to create more stability in the Bulls’ middle-order following a disappointing season last summer.Despite being the Test opener, Khawaja had batted at No.4 in his last eight Shield games since last opening in February 2022 just after he had been elevated to open in the final Test of the 2021-22 Ashes series. Australia’s selectors have not been prescriptive in directing state teams to bat players in their Test positions in Shield cricket and have been happy to let Khawaja and others bat wherever they were needed at domestic level.Related

However, New South Wales coach Greg Shipperd has asked for guidance from the national selectors regarding where to bat incumbent Test opener Steven Smith when he returns to play Shield cricket at the start of the summer, with conjecture continuing to swirl around his batting position in the Test team for the India series.Meanwhile, Michael Neser is set to be available for the start of the domestic season after overcoming a calf issue but Xavier Bartlett is expected to miss at least the first month after the side strain he picked up in the first T20I in Southampton. It’s understood there is hope he could be fit for the Pakistan limited-overs series in early November.Khawaja, who was Queensland captain last season, opted to bat at No. 4 in his four Shield games last summer and scored two centuries. But he and new Queensland skipper Marnus Labuschagne are only set to be available for the first three Shield games this summer before leaving to play in the five-Test series against India. Khawaja is unlikely to be available to play Shield cricket again until the end of the Sri Lanka Test tour in February while Labuschagne may not return to Queensland until the end of the Champions Trophy in March.Jack Clayton was Queensland’s leading Shield run-scorer last season and made two centuries at No. 4 when Khawaja was absent but had to bat at No. 5 when the Australian opener returned and finished the season at No. 3. The promising 25-year-old left-hander looks set to settle at No. 4 this season and Botha praised Khawaja for helping create some stability in the Bulls’ middle order.”I know Uzzie has a good record for Queensland at No. 4, but I had a chat to him and he understood what we’re trying to do with giving the younger guys a bit of stability through Nos. 4, 5, 6,” Botha told ESPNcricinfo.Michael Neser is currently on track to start the Shield season•Getty Images

“I think he realized that if he went in at No. 4 then we’ll have to change our line-up around. And he’s been great with that. He said, ‘I’ll do whatever the team needs,’ and we want him to open so he’s going to do that for us to start with. So that’s a nice result for us. We can have a bit of stability through our Nos. 4, 5, 6 when the [Test players] leave after the third game.”Khawaja is already in some fine touch having helped his Queensland premier cricket club Valley claim the T20 Max title last week before smashing 114 off 119 balls in Valley’s first 50-over match of the season against a South Brisbane attack featuring Bulls seamer Gurinder Sandhu. On the bowling front, Neser looks set to be available for the start of the season after recovering from a calf problem. He got through six overs in a practice game for Queensland against South Australia last week and bowled 10 overs for his club side Gold Coast on Saturday.”He’s in a good spot,” Botha said. “You never want to be injured. But I think it came at a good time where he could freshen up a bit. He was over at Hampshire. So in a way, it probably worked out well. If he starts the season and he goes well, then it’s obviously worked perfectly, but we’ll have to see how that start goes and manage that maybe a little bit. But at the moment, he’s in a good space. He’s fresh. He’s good to go and he’ll be a big player for us this summer.”There have been concerns building over Australia’s fast bowling depth ahead of the series against India with Neser’s calf issue among a host of injury worries. Scott Boland is managing a long-term knee complaint while Lance Morris is set for a slow return following a stress fracture in his back.Bartlett’s significant side strain along with injuries to other white-ball quicks Nathan Ellis (hamstring) and Riley Meredith (side) has stretched Australia on the tour of the UK while they try to carefully manage Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc ahead of a huge workload against India.

Fee agreed: Tottenham in "advanced talks" to sell player with real "character"

Tottenham have now entered advanced talks to sell one player with “a lot of character”, and the Lilywhites are said to have reached an agreement on the fee.

Player's camp in talks with Tottenham, Frank convinced he'd join Spurs

Spurs boss Thomas Frank has seen Mathys Tel arrive on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich, to the tune of £30 million, with Kota Takai and Mohammed Kudus following the Frenchman as they anxiously wait for a potential Morgan Gibbs-White move to go through next.

Nottingham Forest have written a letter to Spurs and the player’s agent threatening legal action, following what they perceive to be an ‘illegal’ approach for the 25-year-old (Sky Sports), but Frank’s side remain hopeful they’ll be able to sign Gibbs-White before deadline day on September 1 (Fabrizio Romano).

In the meantime, attention is turning to other transfer targets, and Brentford star Yoane Wissa remains chief among them amid a reported preference to reunite with Frank in north London.

Tottenham are also yet to make a single sale this summer, despite uncertainty surrounding the futures of many squad members.

Bryan Gil has already confirmed his intention to leave Spurs, while Manor Solomon’s sale would count as pure profit in the eyes of PSR after he signed as a free agent two years ago.

Tottenham in "advanced talks" to sell goalkeeper Josh Keeley

Indeed, according to reliable journalist Alasdair Gold, Tottenham are now in “advanced talks” to sell goalkeeper Josh Keeley.

The 22-year-old is now on the verge of a move to Kenilworth Road, and if all goes to plan, he’ll be playing in League One next season following Luton’s back-to-back relegations.

Tottenham apparently couldn’t agree a new contract for the Irishman, who spent last season on loan at Leyton Orient, with Levy opting to part company despite rave reviews by managers who’ve worked with him.

“His reputation is growing all the time,” Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens told BBC Radio London after their win against Derby County.

“I’m a big believer that goalkeepers, it’s not making great saves from penalties, it’s about having the character about you to believe you can save it. Josh has got that personality and that swagger.

“The fact that he comes up and keeps us in the competition with that header is the extreme, but the kid has got a lot of character and will go far in the game.”

Sky Sports add that the fee agreed is around £1 million, and there will be no buy-back clause.

Tottenham now in talks to sign "extraordinary" teen star likened to Messi

Tottenham Hotspur are entering a new dawn under Thomas Frank and are in talks to bring one of Europe’s most talked about youngsters to North London, according to a report.

Tottenham's pursuit of attacking talent continues

In a freak turn of events, Tottenham were dealt the hand of having to deal with an injury crisis last term and subsequently had to field a line-up that sometimes lacked an effective balance between defence and attack.

Reacting on the market by looking to bolster their offensive depth, Brentford pair Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa are Spurs targets, even if the Bees may be difficult to deal with in light of already losing their manager to the lure of N17.

Despite interest from Manchester United, The Mirror’s John Cross believes Tottenham would be the best fit for Mbeumo to truly take his talent to the next level under Thomas Frank.

He stated: “Bryan Mbeumo should go to Tottenham. The Brentford forward is a serious player and moving to Tottenham, with his old boss Thomas Frank, would propel him to another level into the Champions League.”

Of course, it remains to be seen how much Spurs’ interest is determined by external parties egging on a transfer pursuit, but their admiration for the Cameroon international is certainly an indication that attacking talent will be prioritised this summer.

Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert has been lined up by the Lilywhites as an alternative to add flair out wide. However, it remains to be seen if a deal is viable to sign the Netherlands international.

Either way, Frank appears to have big plans on his mind, though he may steer away from the Premier League in his hunt for goals and creativity.

Tottenham hold talks to sign Roony Bardghji

According to TBR, Tottenham have held talks to sign Copenhagen sensation Roony Bardghji as the Sweden international enters the final six months of his deal in the Danish capital.

Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Manchester United have also been involved in discussions surrounding the future of the youngster, who has been likened to Messi in the past for his agility and close control. However, he suffered an ACL injury in 2024, which has curtailed a move away from the Superliga side until now.

His burst onto the scene left many mesmerised by his abilities, including former coach Fredrik Akesson after the “extraordinary” development he has made since coming through in his homeland.

Spurs have been courting his services since 2023 and feel that despite his struggles with fitness, the opportunity to land Bardghji at a knockdown fee is simply too good to turn down.

Still only 19 years of age, time is on his side as he prepares for a life-changing move to one of the world’s elite, and Tottenham seem to have put themselves in with a great chance of being the ones to make that dream a reality for the Kuwait-born winger.

Amorim's answer to Cherki: Man Utd to make huge bid for "phenomenal" star

With the first stage of the summer transfer window set to come to an end this evening, Manchester United will certainly be trying to complete deals to improve the first-team squad.

Ruben Amorim has already bolstered his ranks, landing Wolves star Matheus Cunha for a reported £62.5m fee, but has yet to add to such business during the off-season.

Such a deal will undoubtedly be the start of the overhaul of the first team squad, with the likes of Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof all released at the end of their contracts.

All areas of the pitch have been subject to improvements from the hierarchy as they look to back the manager to turn around the form, which saw them register a 15th-placed Premier League finish.

A whole host of names have been thrown into the mix over recent weeks, with one name once again popping up and edging closer to completing a switch to Old Trafford.

The latest on United’s hunt for new additions

In recent days, striker Viktor Gyokeres has once again been touted with a move to join United after previously playing under Amorim at Sporting CP in Portugal.

The hierarchy have been in contact with the Swede’s representatives over a move to Old Trafford this summer, looking to provide the added quality in the final third, as seen by his tally of 54 goals in 2024/25.

Sporting CP's ViktorGyokereskisses the trophy as he celebrate after winning the Taca de Portugal

However, he could be joined in the final third by Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, with Sky Sports’ latest update seemingly moving the 25-year-old closer to a move to join the Red Devils.

They claim that Amorim’s side are set to return with a second offer for the Cameroonian international, after their previous bid of £45m plus £10m in add-ons was rejected.

Personal terms aren’t expected to be an issue with the £70m Bees attacker, after he stated his desire to move to join United over a switch to Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Why United’s £70m target could be Amorim’s own Cherki

Rayan Cherki has been in demand throughout the off-season, understandably so given his form for Lyon across all competitions throughout 2024/25.

Olympique Lyonnais' RayanCherkicelebrates scoring their first goal

The 21-year-old registered 32 combined goals and assists for the Ligue 1 outfit, helping the club claim a place in the Europa League under manager Paulo Fonseca.

He even scored twice against the Red Devils in the Europa League quarter-finals this campaign, but it wasn’t enough as Amorim’s side staged one of the greatest European comebacks of all time.

However, they’re likely to come up against Cherki once again next season, after rivals Manchester City agreed a £34m deal to take the attacker to the Etihad in 2025/26.

Despite the pending move, Amorim could be about to land his own version of the Frenchman with a deal for Mbeumo, with the Brentford star also featuring off the right and also able to operate in a central area.

Brentford's BryanMbeumoreacts

The winger, who’s been labelled “phenomenal” by one analyst, has outperformed Cherki in various key areas, highlighting how much of an impressive addition he would be for United this summer.

He’s registered more goals than the soon-to-be City attacker, whilst posting a higher shot-on-target rate, subsequently posing a bigger threat in front of goal for United.
